ABAI announces next Director of Operations.
The American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) is pleased to announce the selection of Ms. Suzette Bennett as the next Director of Operations beginning September 2019. Ms. Bennett joins ABAI in anticipation of the retirement of Mr. Larry Vapniarek, Chief Operating Officer, after over 14 years of extraordinary dedicated service to ABAI.
Ms. Bennett has distinguished herself throughout her career as a leader with exceptional management and operations experience. She comes to the ABAI after working several years for the Council for Adult and Experimental Learning (CAEL) where she held the position of Director of Operations and Compliance. In this position, she was responsible for all aspects of operations including human resources, contract negotiation, audit processes as well as program management, compliance and integrity support. Suzette provided staff support on several committees and possesses the necessary communication, negotiating, database management, and organizational and program management skills that make her a valued member of the ABAI team. Additionally, she provided integrity oversight and ensured the organizations compliance with regulatory requirements including state and national regulations, laws, internal policies and business operations.
Ms. Bennett will continue her passionate commitment to community service. She serves on the City of Philadelphia's Youth Aid Panel Program which empowers first-time juvenile criminal offenders, and SPEAK Mentorship which encourages immigrant girls on how to become future workforce leaders. She is also an active member of the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Kids Club International, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Citizens Academy Alumni Association.
While at the Council for Adult and Experimental Learning, Ms. Bennett had the distinction of being the only employee to have been awarded CAEL’s Learner of the year. This award is a national honor given to only one adult learner each year to recognize the exemplary characteristics adult learners need to demonstrate to be truly successful leaders in school and the workplace. She received this award based on several factors including her inspirational story, academic resilience, professional commitment to serving as an advocate for marginalized populations and her passion for learning.
Ms. Bennett received her B.S degree in Legal Studies from St. Joseph University in Philadelphia, PA and her M.J degree in Corporate and Business Law from Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, DE. Suzette is an avid traveler and advocate for global awareness and compassion.
