ABAI Diplomates — Our Voice in Making MOC Increasingly Relevant
I would like to use this opportunity to share with all of our diplomates some exciting and I hope welcome news regarding Maintenance of Certification (MOC) from the meeting of the ABAI Board of Directors in Baltimore in April. It is certainly a privilege to be serving as the 2012 Chair of the ABAI. Upon beginning my role on the Executive Committee, I took the opportunity to reflect on the mission of the ABAI which highlights improving the quality of medical care to our patients by the development and utilization of professional and educational standards for both initial certification and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) of specialists in Allergy & Immunology. ABAI Honors Vincent Bonagura for MOC Reciprocity Milestone
At their October 2011 meeting in Nashville, TN, the Board of Directors of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) honored Vincent R. Bonagura, MD, for his work in establishing Maintenance of Certification (MOC) reciprocity between ABAI and the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). Bonagura, who served as an ABAI Director from 2002 to 2007 and ABAI Representative to ABP from 2005-2010, was presented with an award for the integral role he played in shaping the mutual relationship between the boards. As a result of his work, diplomates of ABAI and ABP are now able to participate in and complete interchangeable aspects of their respective MOC programs more efficiently without duplicating efforts.
