ABAI Board of Directors Launch Strategic Plan for 2021–2026

5/12/2021

On March 5, 2021, the ABAI Board of Directors approved the organization's comprehensive five-year strategic plan. ABAI was founded in 1971 and launches this bold new plan in the same year that it commemorates its 50th anniversary.

The Board of Directors charted the Strategic Planning Committee in 2019. The Committee conducted a thorough review of organizational strengths and weaknesses, and identified current and anticipated challenges used to develop a plan that meets the ever evolving needs and challenges of the specialty.

Three goals serve as the centerpiece of the strategic plan:

• Enhance communication with and responsiveness to input from all stakeholders.

• Study, build and share ABAI value in collaboration with the American Board of Medical Specialties, our sponsoring Boards (American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Pediatrics) and our collaborating societies.

• Support diplomates and the public by ensuring ABAI governance, infrastructure and programs adapt to meet the evolving needs and circumstances of the diverse patients and diplomates in the specialty of allergy and immunology.

These goals are perfectly aligned with organizational vision and mission of inspiring unsurpassed care of patients with allergic and immunologic disorders through certification of physicians committed to lifelong learning and meeting standards leading to exceptional patient care.

The Board of Directors is committed to this new strategic direction and is at work ensuring accountability over the next five years. ABAI thanks and congratulates the members of the Strategic Planning Committee for their tireless efforts and inspirational product that will guide ABAI over the next five years: Dr.'s Len Bacharier, Ted Freeman, Aidan Long, Michael Nelson, Princess Ogbogu, Romi Saini and Mr. Michael Swarzman.
